Traditional advertising billboards are ‘wet-posted’ by a man on a ladder, with a pasting brush in hand and multiple sheets of printed paper. However, environmental, health & safety, and display quality drivers have prompted a move towards single-sheet, ‘dry posted’ billboards.
The challenge given to Fearsomengine was to develop a system that would allow a single person to post a 6 x 3 metre or 13 x 3 metre printed sheet onto a billboard, without using ladders, in the same amount of time that a wet post would normally be undertaken (around 12 minutes for a 6 x 3 metre board).
To add further meat to this already demanding brief, it was also specified that the printed polyethylene sheet could not be ‘finished’ in any way (i.e. have hems, studs or loop holes). The posting had to be done in a controlled and safe manner, and the system had to be low cost to compete with a number of other products on the market.
In tandem with our colleagues at Agripa, fearsomengine conceived and developed the Insignia System through a series of full scale prototypes. The resultant product satisfies every aspect of the brief and has generated a great deal of market interest, both in the UK and abroad.
