Regular contamination testing of water supplies is undertaken to identify the presence of harmful pathogens such as Legionella. Traditionally samples are taken at source and delivered to a laboratory where testing procedures can take weeks to complete.

While completing his PhD Dr Neil Polwart devised a system which made use of the phenomenon of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) to analyse water samples within an hour. Realising the significance of this Neil asked us to design a portable instrument to allow his technology to be used in the field.

The solution is rugged, sealed against dust and water ingress, intuitive to use and provides precise mounting for the critical optical analysis components.
